Objectives
The Sportsmanship First overriding objective is to "improve behaviour in sport".
- Impress on the principal advocates of the Sportsmanship First Charter, coaches, teachers and parents to in turn encourage and impress on all sporting people the need for genuine understanding of the value and reason for each of the Charters statements and realise the wider social benefit.
To shake an opponents hand with true meaning is very different to 'a handshake'.
The SF logo of two hands shaking and the phrase "mean it" does in a simple way communicate this point to everyone.
- Government to introduce Sportsmanship First as part of key stage development in schools.
- Seek endorsement and support from all sporting governing bodies in the UK to adopt the Sportsmanship First Charter.
- Seek media campaign involvement and sponsorship.
- Implement "Sportsmanship First Awards".
Prizes will include media coverage of each premier team or individual from every sport, offering an annual experience to the most outstanding individual or team, voted by their own organisation league etc for demonstrating acts of Sportsmanship First.
An example being Portsmouth FC.offering a "game with the stars". The Sportsmanshipfirst Awards present regular media opportunities ensuring very high levels of public interest throughout sporting seasons, creating very regular opportunities for reinforcing Sportsmanshipfirst values and focusing the stars themselves!
- Launch the scheme in West Sussex.
- Seek sponsorship from businesses.
